Valentine’s Day photoshoot

The ultimate guide to an easy at home photoshoot for Valentine’s Day!

photography, themed photography, valentines inspiration, valentines

Themed photography is one of my favorites, the perfect occasion to get creative by yourself or with your friends. It’s easy to do as long as you have some inspiration and creativity and you are willing to invest in some props and lighting.

I will list what I use at the end of the blog, no worries it’s available for everyone and you can also use a phone for the photos/videos.

Water photography:

Water photography is one fun way to be creative and have exceptional results

For this, you need a bathtub, any bathtub not necessarily an aesthetic one, or even a kid’s swimming pool, or a lake or pond if available. I mean creativity has no limits, after all, you need to have patience and will… And of course flower petals to decorate. I used tulip petals for one shoot and rose petals for another. You can always get creative with other flowers. You can also book a hotel room for this, If you are based in The Netherlands I recommend Inntel Hotels.

Tip: the water should not be too hot and when you put the petals in you have like 20 minutes to do the shots (after the petals will get smushy and the photos will not be perfect)

So arrange your setup, pour the water in, and at the very end when you are ready to pour the petals, try to have as many as possible for the best possible effect. Some balloons or candy might also help as props.

Rose Petals Photoshoot inspired by American Beauty

Lingerie Tip: you can use a bathing suit of your choice or nude lingerie and cover it with the petals as I did in my photoshoots.

Lighting tip: I used a light ring set from above so I don’t get any shadows.

I really can’t stress enough that good lighting is everything in photography. A professional setting is ideal but hey no worries, just with a simple light ring and a bit of Lightroom editing you will have the best results.

Water tricks: pour a bottle of milk into the bathtub to make it a bit blurry, it gives an extra effect to the shots.

Dress backdrop Valentines photos

Girls just wanna have fun….

This is an easy very fun photoshoot actually. Move most of your furniture so you have space and just lay all your dresses down, the fluffier the better. Try to make a color palette from the dresses and avoid everything that has a print. The simpler the colors the better.

Cozy corner at home Valentine’s photoshoot

Get yourself lingerie or a red or pink dress add some makeup, maybe some face and body glitter some props, and some lights and shoot in your home. For this, you need a friend or tripod and a bit of imagination, and good lighting. (Lightning will do the trick). You can also do this on your bed or on the floor, just make sure you create a nice background as I did. I used one of my long dresses to lay on so I can create this effect. But there are many other possibilities to use as background.

Rent a hotel room for a Valentine’s Day photoshoot

Maybe many of you will be surprised but many hotels have the option to rent a room for the day, which means 09:00-18:00 at a much lower rate. So if you feel your place does not have the perfect aesthetics that you desire you can always rent a room for a photoshoot.

Tip: Be careful with the lighting, many hotels have very poor lights for the ambiance.

I really hope that this inspires and helps you in your content creation. Also, have a look at my Instagram page for more tips and tricks and also traveling advice. Hope to see you there and if you do use my advice tag me and I will share your photos on my page! Wishing you an inspired day XOXO.
